The Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and the Luso-African identity

The article aims at searching for the correlation between Luso-African identity, understood as a form of cultural identity based on concept Lusophony, and Community Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), an international organisation that brings together countries whose official language is Portuguese. CPLP considered institutional emanation idea Lusophony. However, almost 25 years since its creation it still receives lot criticism. Despite multiplicity initiatives proposed, long time seemed did not really move beyond phase. Furthermore, until recently has focused mainly political cooperation, leaving behind enormous economic possibilities provoking questions about untapped potential CPLP. paper attempts to reflect hypothesis limited capacities regarding African continent are, least partially, related problem with identity. considerations presented in are critical reading literature subject, qualitative analysis already existing data (official documents press, available statistics), well author’s reflections drawn from observations, interviews informal talks conducted during field research Mozambique (2015) Guinea-Bissau (2016), along multiple study visits Portugal (2011-2016), while realizing project devoted state dysfunctionality Lusophone Africa.
